Why Is My AC Blowing Warm Air in the Summer?

Nothing feels better than stepping into a crisp, cool home after being in the summer heat. But what if your AC is blowing warm air instead? It’s a frustrating situation that leaves you uncomfortably hot. Your comfort and safety are our priority, so when you face an air conditioning problem and don’t want to troubleshoot the issue, it’s time to call in the experts.

Assurance Aire is ready with a team of trusted HVAC professionals to solve your cooling needs. We’ll get your air conditioning back to blowing cool crisp air quickly.

For those that have more time and a desire to troubleshoot, here are a few steps to check why your air conditioner might be blowing hot air.

Keep in mind that most units are designed to stay between 75-78 degrees during the hottest part of the day 11 A.M. – 5 P.M. during Florida Summer.

In general, first check your AC breakers to ensure they are not tripped, especially after a storm.

Check the Thermostat

Checking the thermostat is a great place to start! Iis it blank or “cool on” flashing? More than likely your drain is clogged.

Sounds simple, but in Florida most HVAC systems have a safety float switch. This is a cup with wire(s) coming out from the top, usually located near the PVC pipe coming out of the front of the indoor unit.

To check; pop the cap or unlock the cap to see if there is water in the pipe. If there is water in the cup, then your float switch was activated due to a drain/pan clog. To unclog; use a wet/shop vac on the PVC pipe by the outside unit to suck the clog out. If you’re not sure how to unclog your drain correctly, contact an HVAC company in Titusville, FL, for professional assistance.

Check for Refrigerant leaks

If you’ve noticed your AC has visible ice forming on the inside, outside unit or copper lines, it’s time to call a professional. Turn the system off to prevent further damage, as  fixing this issue isn’t a DIY job; you’ll need to call a professional HVAC company to address this safely.
